This week again, Caged Again latest episode is being such a delight. I'm getting really invested in Junior and Sun's journey into what it means to be Human and how it give an overview of what they believed it would mean to be Human and what it really feels like to them now.

It's a metaphorical journey for them that represents the search for existential fulfillment and meaning in life. Sun and Junior are trying to understand how they want to be human, as well as giving into the growing feeling they have for each other.

Hyper Knife is my perfect fanservice show. I always love it when a show makes more emotional sense than logical sense - Deok-hee survives and swerves jail not because it's realistic, but because he needs to be proven wrong lol. It's Se-ok's story, she's the one who always states her terms, she's the one with total clarity and fearlessness about what she wants and how to get it. It's so fun how episode 8 is essentially this massive collusion of all these men going, "yup, yup, Deok-hee has a point yknow", and then Se-ok doing her own thing anyways lol. Like the moment Deok-hee and that pisshead officer made that deal behind her back, it was a wrap. As if Se-ok would take that decision lying down. It's more satisfying punishment for Deok-hee to live, to see Se-ok truly surpass him (on her terms!), and for him to have to actually contend with what he is, without the protection of his reputation, his money, and his personal ideal of himself as the "perfect" teacher to the "perfect" student.

Imo their relationship being platonic made perfect sense for the story's chronology. Deok-hee takes his job as Se-ok's teacher very seriously - to cross that line would be a violation of what she asked of him as her teacher. Much of their conflict is because they're no longer teacher-student (their relationship was already evolving by the time she tried to strangle him) - and Se-ok has already moved past the need for him to teach her, while he clings to it. His demand that she opens up his brain is both fitting and ironic - he rejects her, then demands she enter the most intimate part of him (the brain has a pulse like a heart). He even twists up that demand by turning his surgery into a highly convoluted plot where he dies dramatically in the OR by her hands, his final, parting lesson that perfects his student. If the show had validated him, I would've been so let down. I think that now that Deok-hee has to face her after she entered him, their relationship is going to get a lot more fun - no more barriers between them.

I cant lie, l scoffed when i first saw the trailers for this show - it looked like every other edgy bad-taste makjang. And while there is a lot of that floating around here, its also far more nuanced, far more confident in/committed to its vision than i could've imagined. It's impressive how it takes the vulnerability and internal logic of its "psycho" characters very seriously. Trust Park Eun-bin to sell a concept. Should never have doubted her for a sec. She's flying high here, utterly unmoored from any constraints. Sol Kyung-gyu seems to have a more interesting taste in kdramas than his esteemed actor peers do. I loved the supporting cast as always. Gorgeous direction that grows as the story progresses. And that script! Where did it come from? What inspired it? Why was it written? Please give an interview, writer Kim Sun-hee, I need to know 🙏

Just saw The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie…

And I didn’t think I would. I figured I missed my chance because I failed to keep track of when the film would come out and I would have to plan carefully to see it next week if it came to it. Then, the other night, my mom said that she’s going to Snow White with my sister and niece. Hearing opportunity calling my name, I nonchalantly asked, “Is Looney Tunes playing in the same theater?” Thankfully, it did…an hour before theirs, meaning that I’d wait an hour and a half for them to leave theirs. But I didn’t care, I got the chance to see a beautifully and hilarious movie while they got to see Snow White. As far as I’m concerned, I won.

As for how good the movie is, well, do you remember that recent, Max exclusive Looney Tunes show that came and went? Imagine something of that art style and sense of humor, but given more of a budget. That’s basically what The Day the Earth Blew Up is, a movie version of Looney Tunes Cartoons, starring Daffy Duck and Porky Pig. That’s either gonna be your thing or it isn’t. I certainly wouldn’t think it was mine, because Looney Tunes Cartoons…wasn’t BAD, but it was clearly writers trying to modernize Looney Tunes but also trying to stick to their classic, cartoonish roots. Honestly, I feel like The Looney Tunes Show did that idea better, and even funnier. And if it were normal circumstances, I would have waited for it to come to streaming…Funnily enough, we’re no longer dealing with normal circumstances.

Warner Bros (More specifically, DAVID HORSE-FACE ZASLAV) has been SEVERELY screwing over the Looney Tunes. They canceled Coyote vs ACME for a bullshit tax write off, almost cancelled THIS movie for the same reason, and, just recently, ERASED THE ENTIRE LOONEY TUNES LIBRARY OFF OF MAX because Horse-Face McGee thought that appealing to children isn’t a viable strategy (Fucking idiot)! Going to see The Day the Earth Blew Up is more than watching a Looney Tunes movie. It’s giving The Looney Tunes a final salute as they face what’s basically their final swan song! If you love the Looney Tunes and animation in general, this is less of a movie you WANT to see, and more of a movie you HAVE to see. The good news is that you’ll at least have a good time.

The story…is unimportant. It’s a Looney Tunes movie. You’re not here for strong themes or an incredible narrative that rivals Oppenheimer or whatever Film Twitter tells me is incredibly brilliant that I should feel ashamed to not have watched yet. This movie is less BRILLIANT and more…clever. There’s a genuine twist in this that I didn’t see coming as it incorporated a throwaway moment that I completely forgot about. As far as I’m concerned, that’s pretty clever, even if it gave a character a…less than funny reveal for WHY he’s doing this certain thing. Speaking of which, you’re either going to appreciate the sense of humor in this film or NOT. Even for me, someone who’s often fond of wackadoodle humor, the jokes were often hit or miss. There is a LOT of comedic gold, don’t get me wrong. For instance, everything surrounding the character Farmer Dan is comedic GOLD, both in the way he’s animated and how he reacts to Porky and Daffy’s antics. But, at the same time…You have Daffy Duck clapping his cheeks to get internet famous. Remember what I said about Looney Tunes Cartoons trying to modernize the Looney Tunes? Sometimes it did it in the worst ways…

Thankfully, the one thing I say is absolutely perfect about the film is the animation. Every second of it is fluid, expressive, and, dare I say, LOONEY. Getting the chance to see it all on the big screen was a definite pleasure, as I adored getting to see hand drawn animation used at its best for the first time in a LONG time. The jokes and plot may not be the best, but the animation really carried the entire of the film.

Again, if you’re a fan of animation, you’re going to love it. And if you’re a fan of sticking it to a dipshit CEO, you’re gonna love it more. And if it SUCCEEDS, well, then maybe it won’t be all for the Looney Tunes…

Fuck it, more space orc stuff?

Had this thought while driving in to work this morning; someone else has probably posted smth like it too, but I just gotta get it out of my head. Let’s talk about acceleration.

Our bodies are really good at adapting to G-force so long as it’s consistent. So accelerating and decelerating feels like ✨something✨ but if you maintain speed it stops feeling like much of anything so long as it’s within the range of force your muscles can compensate for. Like car speeds.

If you’re cruising down the highway at 70+ then dropping to 40 is really significant. It feels so much slower than it actually is bcs your used to higher speeds. Planes are another good example. Once you’ve gotten into the air and maintain speed it doesn’t really feel like anything until you stand up tp walk around, and then bcs everything in the cabin with you is also moving at the same speed, you barely feel it. And all of this is an environment with friction in the atmosphere. Out minds are scary good at micro adjusting to velocity. Just look at racers and fighter pilots.

Our bodies are better at adjusting than our minds—a lot of decisions that happen at ludicrous speeds are all reflexes too—basically autopilot. It’s facilitating. We can already see in our own population people who are better at autopilot and people that generally cannot access that, so clearly this is a skill that can be taught. Humans can learn high speed precision reaction through just Doing the Thing over and over again.

I used to have a much bigger venue in The X Bridge, but I walked away from that because folks only wanted me to talk about Toonami, a block that, at the time I walked away, had been off the year for a number of years. That was the past, and I wanted to look ahead.

So, I kept myself busy.

And I went through a lot of things on the other side of the screen.

Then, social media as it once was imploded thanks to a despotic little man with way too much money and power.

Then, I found myself again.

Instead of heading back here, I found solace at Bluesky and, surprisingly, at Blogger.

I found my old blog and just started writing how I felt. Then I wrote some more.

Then, I reintroduced myself properly here.

Tonight, I came back to Tumblr.

I don't know if I'll stay, mind you. I honestly thought people weren't here anymore, but life tends to surprise you. This isn't a return to this Tumblr.

So, let's discuss how a forced Game 5 into overtime was the cherry on top for this historically epic WNBA season. Even more so, for the 2023-2024 NCAA basketball season lead right into the 2024 WNBA season. Coming off a historic run of college basketball, the WNBA bringing in one of the most notable rookie classes ever. Constant record breaking attendance and viewership numbers for multiple teams. Rookies breaking records left and right. Veteran players holding it down and breaking [more] records. The announcement of not one, not 2, but 3 planned future WNBA teams. The announcement of an "off-season" 3v3 league. Oh, and an Olympic gold medal in between. It's been a honor to have witnessed EVERY moment of this special women's basketball "cycle," and I'm so glad I had the chance. As a women's sports fan, I can't wait to see what's next in the women's basketball world. ❤️

Suntiny is fun! I'm glad they gave us 2 episodes to start the series because you get the explanation of the problem between the main couple, the solution offered and how everything didn't happen the way it was supposed to be. Our main couple ends up body-swapping and this will only stop when their problems will end.

Of course everything started because they couldn't get intimate, but I believe the problem is deeper. There are probably other things, as the last video diary entry of Sun suggests. The body-swapping is just a reason to make the couple face what's not going on in their life and to find (together) how to fix it. This is just another form of "communication".

They will live the life of the other to better understand them. Consequently their relationship is going to be stronger and better. At least, that's how I see it. I think they did a good job with mixing romance, comedy, showing intimacy, but also in a way challenge the usual discourse in BL fandom. We can also count on Max and Nat really amazing chemistry to make everything possible.

As for now, I'm really enjoying the series and can't wait to watch the next episode.

Genuinely very fascinated by Tastefully Yours. It's relying very heavily, almost entirely on the actors to sell it. It's probably the most "stagey" kdrama I've seen from Netflix - the art direction is very pared down, which emphasises the performances, which skew broad and stylised. The script is pretty predictable, often corny, not that funny - but the way everyone delivers their lines, you would think they were the funniest words ever written. Kang Ha-neul and Go Min-si are gorgeous mega-talented superstars, but unlike a lot of other dramas which make a sharp visual/performance distinction between glamorous lead actors and supporting character actors, KHN & GMS feel real, part and parcel of Jeonju's zaniness. And their chemistry is effortless.

Funnily enough, watching this show gives me flashbacks to Welcome to Samdal-ri, which I really didn't like. They both have a pretty thin script, with a really well-matched lead couple. I think where Tastefully Yours works is that it doesn't insist on itself. Samdal-ri came in a Netflix package so glossy that it made its structural problems (and lack of charm) even more glaring. And frankly, the actors in TY are a more cohesive unit, while Samdal-ri spreads itself too thin across too many uninteresting characters.

Anyways what I'm getting at is that Tastefully Yours is kinda silly - but who cares when you've got a cast this good.
